Born West Thurrock, Grays, Essex, enlisted 2nd December 1912, Gravesend, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 3½ inches, weight 112lbs, resided Noake House, Wennington, Purfleet, Essex / No.1. Thorpe Road, East Ham. Formerly machine labourer in paper mills.

Son of William & Ada Potter, 23 Angle Road, West Thurrock. Brothers - Percy Potter & Walter Potter.

2nd December 1912, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th April 1913, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th September 1914, wounded, shrapnel wound, right leg; 6th January 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 18th March 1915, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 12th May 1915, posted 1st Battalion,  Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th August 1915, appointed Acting Corporal; 7th September 1915, relegated to unpaid Lance Corporal; 16th September 1915, appointed Acting Corporal; 1st June 1916, promoted Corporal; 19th September 1917, appointed Acting Sergeant; 3rd October 1917, reverts to Corporal; 7th October 1917, appointed Acting Sergeant; 12th December 1917, transferred to NO.1.3 Provisional Labour Company, 447423; 13th January 1918, promoted Sergeant;

12th December 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

Pension 9/4 a week. Disability VAH, 20%
