4th September 1891, enlisted as a "Boy" and posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd October 1891, 3rd Class Certificate of Education; 10th October 1892, 2nd Class Certificate of Education; 4th May 1895, attained the age of 18 years; 14th March 1896, appointed musician; 30th November 1898, Chatham, quitting Barracks without permission when for playing at Officers Mess at 7.30pm, remaining absent until 11.30pm, 10 days confined to Barracks, forfeits one Good Conduct Badge; 1st December 1898, reverts to Private; 21st June 1899, Chatham, absent from Parade at 9.00pm until 5.40am 22nd, deprived 2 days pay, forfeits 1 good conduct badge; 12th October 1899, appointed musician; 18th December 1899, Mustaphe, drunk in Zizinia Theatre, about 11.05pm, 10 days confined to Barracks, forfeits one good conduct badge; 6th October 1902, appointed Lance Corporal; 2nd April 1903, Colombo, drunk when falling in for playing out with The Band at about 8.10pm, deprived of Lance Stripe; 12th August 1903, re-engaged for such term as to complete 21 years; 14th August 1903, appointed Lance Corporal; 2nd November 1903, reverts to musician; 22nd January 1904, passed Class of Instruction for the rank of Lance Corporal; 1st April 1904, Lance Corporal, 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th May 1905, passed class of instruction for stretcher bearer; 20th January 1906, promoted Corporal; 24th October 1906, failed to qualify at Musketry; 28th November 1906, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th January 1907, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 31st October 1907, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st May 1908, appointed paid Lance Sergeant; 7th December 1908, appointed Corporal of The Band; 17th February 1909, promoted Sergeant; 17th February 1909, appointed Sergeant of The Band; 6th November 1911, permitted to continue Service beyond 21 years; 12th January 1912, passed class of instruction for 1st Aid and Ambulance Duties; 2nd April 1917, Bangalore, neglect of duty whilst in charge of a band & not complying with an order, severely reprimanded; 15th October 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

25th January 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 27/6 for 4 weeks 26th January 1918 to 26th February 1918, then 11/- a week to be reviewed in 17 weeks, conditional.

25th September 1918, Royal Hospital Chelsea letter - This Non Commissioned Officer has been awarded  a Service Pension of 22d a day for life from 26th January 1918, in addition to the Disability Pension awarded him by The Ministry of Pensions.
